Always make sure that products are clean and sanitised, ready to use. This goes the same for brushes and equipment.
Make sure your hair is tied back, with no jewellery that will interfere with the model/client.
Make sure you use a cape to cover the model/client's clothing.
Sanitise hands.
Always complete a consultation beforehand.
Method 1- Diffuser:
- Spritz the hair with water to dampen it.
- Using a small amount of mousse, rub in between hands and work into the ends of the hair, scrunching the hair as you work around the head.
- Saturate the hair with sea salt spray, throughout mid-ends.
- Using a diffuser, dry the hair starting at the roots. (If you start with the ends you will have less volume).
- Scrunch the hair between blasts.
- Ask the model to tip her head back/forward in order for you to reach the roots.
- You are now able to work the hair into any style.
This is the outcome of creating beach waves using a diffuser. I enjoyed this technique, as I had not used a diffuser before to create such looks. The look is relaxed and wavy. If needed, you can always go over a section with a tong, but that was not necessary.
Method 2 - Twist:
- Take a section of hair.
- Divide it into two.
- Twist both strands.
- Then twist them both together.
- Run the straighteners over the twist.
- Leave to cool.
Here are the images from using this method. I do not like this technique as much as the first one, mainly due to the end result. I can, however, imagine it to be pretty on a larger scale. I think what I dont like about it is that the waves are so small, that they are very faint and not prominent. This is relaxed, but I feel that there is not enough curl.
Method 3 - Curling Tong:
- Take a large section of hair.
- Turn the curling tong on, and hold it pointing down.
- Using the curler as a wand, wrap the hair around the tong, for 8-12 seconds depending on hair type. Leave the ends out of the tong. (Always ask the model if they would like curls coming away or towards from the face).
- Leave to cool.
- Tease the ends to create more lift.
- You are now able to create looks with this hair texture.
Here is the outcome to the final method creating beach waves. I think that this is my favourite technique to create the curls, as they are all perfect curls, and create a really nice, laid-back effect. With this method, I then went on to create a bo-ho inspired up do. I put a plait in the hair, and pinned the hair up. I left the fringe out as it framed the face of my model. I am really pleased with this outcome, as it would suit a beach wedding or festival. Beach waves are a versatile look, as well as being popular particularly with the younger generation, so I feel that this session was very beneficial, especially to learn different ways to create slightly different curls.
