Introduction

During this unit, I will be looking at makeup and beauty brands, in order to learn the development from a concept, to a full working brand. In this unit, I will be researching brands that appeal to me, in order to choose one final brand. With this chosen brand, I will look at trend forecasting, to create my own Spring/Summer 2016 looks, for editorial, catwalk and advertisement shoots. I will complete 2 shoots for each category, one being Daytime, and the other being Night time. During this process, I will be looking at how the brand advertises their own products, from packaging, promotions, price points and the products themselves. As well as using this blog as a platform to show my ideas and development throughout this unit, we will take part in a timed assessment, in which we will be assessed on our professionalism and our final looks for the catwalk.

Ultimately, I am really looking forward to what this unit will bring to myself as a makeup artist. I have always been a lot more interested in film and television makeup, as I have not been as confident with beauty/fashion makeup. I am looking forward to learning the skills and techniques that are needed to be a successful beauty/fashion makeup artist, as well as putting my own take on things. I have always been a creative person, and I am hoping to come out of this unit with some exciting, original and effective looks. I do, however, have doubts starting this unit. As I have always leant towards film and television makeup, I am not as confident in beauty and fashion makeup, so I am hoping that with the help and support of my tutors and peers, I will be able to work on this. I think what I will find most difficult is making sure that both sides of the face are equal (if that is the design), such as making sure that the liquid liner is even, and both eyeshadows are blended. I think that beauty makeup will be more of a struggle for me, but I am hoping to bring my creative and arty personality to the looks.

To begin this unit, I would like to explore the brands from the list that has been supplied to us. At first glance, I am more interested in dark, arty looks, but I want to push myself and challenge myself, so I want to explore the ranges of looks in each brand. Instantly, Illamasqua has stood out for me, as we have worked with their products, and I am always admiring their advertisement shoots for their latest products, as they are innovative, but at the same time very beautiful. From here, I need to now research each of the brands, and explore them.
